| 内容記述 | This study considers the book "The Sacrifice" that was written by Kunio Yanagida. He is a nonfiction writer, and he wrote about his son who killed himself when he was still young. Adolescents commonly suffer from anguish, for example, with problems related to sexuality, friends, their firmly and their own existence. However, they rarely try to commit suicide. Then why is it necessary for some young people to commit suicide? We can't know directly from term, but we can learn from their death and their way of life. So here I would like consider the death of Youichirou Yanagida who is the subject of "The Sacrifice". His family appeared happy to outside observers, but his mother suffered from serious bouts of depression and she was unable to bring up her son, Youichirou, in a suitable manner. He showed no particular ill effects in his early youth. However, when he was a freshman at university, he broke a window-pane and tried to jump down from the second floor. Following this, his father made great efforts to help him. However, the approach his father used (from the book) seems limited to a more reasoned approach which his son was not able to handle. At the same time, the son's need for a warmer more caring approach was not satisfied. In Youichrou's case, there was no maternal support in his family, environment or psychotherapy. And at the same time, he was forced into corner by verbal reasoning. In psychotherapy, nonverbal communication might be more effective. It is what should be named “maternal climate." |
