The LFC is a collection of phonetic features necessary for mutual intelligibility among non-native speakers of English. Jenkins has selected the LFC based on findings from her empirical research in which English pronunciation is examined in its sociolinguistic context. Firstly, the main features of the LFC are stated, followed by a discussion of some of the innovative points of the LFC and problems inherent in it.
