Not only the people but also the political, economic and social system of many countries were affected by the virus, and lot of confusion were caused. Many Japanese universities and student counseling services faced difficulties to continue face-to face counseling and the international students who received counseling at these institutions were at risk to abandon the counseling sessions. This paper reviews the initial phase of the pandemic and examines what kind of impact the virus had on the counseling services and international student’s psyche and thier social situation.
