。これらに対して，交替の可否には動詞に備わる意味の違いが起因しているという「動詞意味論」からの分析がとられることが普通であり，「移動」と「状態変化」の二つの意味を両方含む動詞が壁塗り交替を起こす動詞であり，一方の意味しか含まない動詞は交替を起こさないと論じられてきた（Pinker 1989など）。この分析に基づいて，ペンキの移動と壁の状態変化両方を表すことができる「塗る」は交替動詞であり，水の移動のみを表す「注ぐ」，テーブルの状態変化のみを表す「覆う」は非交替動詞だというように，交替動詞と非交替動詞の分類がなされてきた。\n　しかし，先行研究で示された動詞中心主義の分析が，日本語のようなSOV言語にも当てはまるのかという問題がある。多くの先行研究が対象にしたSVO言語とは反対に，SOV言語の文では動詞が文の最後に現れるため，動詞の意味情報は目的語が現れた後に初めて利用可能になる。交替可能性が動詞の意味情報に依存するのであれば，文中に動詞が現れるまで文の認可は行われないと考えられる。一方，動詞が現れるより前に動詞以外の要素から意味情報を計算している可能性がある。これを踏まえ本論文では，日英対照研究の立場から，日本語の移動物/場所交替に関して，文の容認性判断と実時間処理負荷の点から（1）各構文の処理の非対称性を計量的に観察することは可能なのか，（2）日本語母語話者は目的語名詞と格標示のパターンをどのように利用するのかという2点を研究課題としている。\n　本論文は6章で構成されており，研究課題と実験の概要について述べている第1章に続き，第2章では交替現象にとって主要な理論研究である語彙規則アプローチ(Pinker 1989)，構文文法アプローチ（Goldberg 1995, 2002, 2006）に加えてIwata(2008)による語彙的構文アプローチを概観する。これらの先行研究には，交替の可否を決定する要素を中心的に担っているのは動詞であるという考えが共通して存在することを指摘する。その後，英語と日本語の壁塗り交替に現れうる動詞の分類について比較を行う。交替動詞の分類には先行研究間で不一致がみられるが，これは目的語名詞の組み合わせによって例文の容認性が変わる点が原因とされる。\n　第3章では実験手法を用いた先行研究を概観する。Carlson & Tanenhaus (1988), Gropen, Pinker, Hollander & Goldberg (1991), Christensen & Wallentin (2011), Wojciench (2014)の結果から，SVO言語の壁塗り交替における各構文処理の難しさには差がみられることが示されている。\n　先行する理論研究に共通する動詞中心主義がSOV言語にも適用される場合，日本語のようなSOV言語では動詞が文中に現れるまで構文の認可がなされないはずである。これを検証するために，第4章・第5章では，名詞句とその格標示パターンが各構文の容認性判断または読み時間に影響を与えるのかを調査するため，2種類の移動物/場所交替（壁塗り交替・弾当て代換）を対象に4つの容認性判断質問紙調査と5つの自己ペース読文課題を行った。\n　第4章では，壁塗り交替に関して先行研究で議論された動詞を交替動詞・移動物志向動詞・場所志向動詞の3群に再分類するため，容認性判断調査を行った。分類された3動詞群それぞれに対して自己ペース読文実験を行ったところ，すべての実験において動詞前区間でTタイプ構文（－ニ－ヲV）がLタイプ構文（－ヲ－デV）よりも速く読まれ，構文要因の主効果または有意傾向がみられた。また，交替動詞群実験の動詞区間において，構文要因と語順要因の交互作用がみられた。これらの結果から，たとえ動詞が現れる前であっても各構文の処理の難しさには差があり，Tタイプ構文（－ニ－ヲV）はLタイプ構文（－ヲ－デV）より処理が容易であると示された。これは，Tタイプ構文が「－ヲ－ニ」という格標示パターンを含むことに由来する。動詞前区間であっても，日本語母語話者は「－ヲ－ニ」という格標示の組み合わせから移動事象を予測し，次の区間にどういった動詞が現れるかを予測することが容易になる。一方，Lタイプ構文の格パターン「－ヲ－デ」は特定の事象タイプと結びつきにくく，次の動詞への予測が困難になり，読み時間の増加に繋がる。このように，壁塗り交替の動詞前区間での各構文処理には格パターンに基づく事象タイプの予測の容易さが関係していることが示唆される。\n　第5章では，弾当て代換（「弾を的に当てた」/「的を弾に当てた」）に対し，2つの容認性判断の質問紙調査と2つの自己ペース読文実験が行われた。使役タイプ{オンセット使役/同延的使役}の違いと構文タイプ{移動物目的語/非移動物目的語}の違いが交互作用を引き起こすかを調査した結果，文が同延的使役事象を示す場合，非移動物目的語構文（「電柱を壁に－」）の容認性はオンセット使役事象を指す場合の非移動物目的語（「電柱をボールに－」）よりも有意に高かった。また，同様の交互作用は自己ペース読文実験でも観察された。動詞前区間において，非移動物目的語構文の読み時間はオンセット使役事象条件より同延的使役事象条件のときに有意に短かった。これらの交互作用は，同延的使役事象が引き起こす視点シフトによるものだと考えられる。同延的使役事象では，動作主による物体への使役行為と連動して物体が移動を続ける。動作主の視点は物体とともに動くため，着点の非移動物を擬似的な移動物だと捉えることが可能になる。同延的使役事象ではこういった視点シフトが作用し，非移動物目的語構文に対する容認性が向上すると考えられる。同様の理由で，同延的事象による視点シフトが非移動物目的語構文の処理負荷を軽減していると言える。\n　第6章では，日本語のようなSOV言語の移動物/場所交替の文処理において，動詞前区間では目的語名詞と格標示パターンから計算される意味関係を利用していることから，交替の可否は動詞のみによって決まるものではないという結論を述べている。","subitem_description_language":"ja","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"},{"subitem_description":"Through this thesis, I treated the theme/location alternations in Japanese, like locative alternation and bump alternation, and I attempted to address the following questions: (i) whether the asymmetry between the variants in the argument structure alternation can be quantitatively attested, (ii) how the participants make use of the object NPs and the case-marking patterns for processing of the alternation, and (iii) whether the participants start such a processing even before the verb is encountered.\n  The previous theoretical approaches (Pinker 1989, Goldberg 1995, 2002, 2006, and Iwata 2008) have an idea in common that the possibility of the alternation is centered on a verb. However, previous experimental studies suggest that the two variants in the alternation do not show the same\nbehavior.\n  In order to address the questions, I conducted four acceptability judgment studies and five self-paced reading studies. As for the locative alternation, three self-paced reading studies were conducted for each class of verbs attested in norming studies. There was an interaction between the\nConstruction type and the Word-order type at the verb region in the experiment examining the\nalternating verbs. These findings indicate that processing difficulty of the variants in locative alternation is not the same even before the verb is encountered. Such an asymmetry of processing difficulty was found even in the case of the alternating verbs.\n  As for bump alternation, two acceptability judgment studies and two SPR studies were conducted in order to examine how the Causation type and the Object/Subject type would interact. The results showed that there was an interaction between the two factors in such a way that extended causation facilitated processing of the immobile object/subject variants, more than onset causation. These results suggest that perspective shift played a role in processing load on the immobile object/subject variants in bump alternation, and importantly, this effect was found pre-verbally.\n  In conclusion, the possibility of the theme/location alternation is not exclusively centered on the verb, i.e., head information.
