          <dc:description>This paper examines when Korean food was introduced to Japanese society and when Korean words came to be listed as foreign loan words in Japanese national language dictionaries. It also discusses the selection and notation of Korean words as foreign loanwords, while taking into consideration the situation of exchange between Japan and Korea. Korean cuisine was introduced to Japan during the establishment of the modern nation-state, and after the end of World War II, it made further inroads into Japanese society. However, from the late 1980s, Korean culinary words began to appear as foreign loan words in the Kojien and Daijirin dictionaries, the two most prestigious Japanese language dictionaries in Japan. The selection of foreign loan words is made at the discretion of each publisher, but their notation is based on the rules provided by the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics (NINJAL).</dc:description>
