Its origin was Konan Junior High School, founded by Hachisaburo Hirao in 1919. In this study, it is clarified that Hirao not only recommended sports within this school, but also had a wide knowledge about sports. The purpose of this study is to focus on the description of "German gymnastics" （Deutsches Turnen） in Hirao’s contributions, and to complement its contents from the viewpoint of the history of physical education.
