内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 This study concerns a method used for supporting students in the student counseling room, which seems to be particularly useful and relevant for helping the current generation of students. We offer group activities, as part of a'Weekly Group', to students who tend to be isolated from others. This gives them an opportunity to make up for the lack of social experience in their lives up to now, and to practice having relationships with other people. The Weekly Group program includes activities such as ceramic art, tea ceremony, horticulture and cooking.
An analysis of data over a four year period (2005-2008) revealed that there were three types of students, in terms of their patterns of participation, who took part in the group. Moreover, from this information, we can consider the best way to support various types of students.
The data showed that there were three patterns in the way that students participated in the Weekly Group. Firstly, the largest number of students were those who came to the group only a few times. Secondly, there were a small number of students who took part in the group many times, and were also taking regular counseling sessions in the counseling room. Finally, there were a small number of students who participated in the Weekly Group many times, but otherwise were not receiving counseling. Looking at these three groups, it seems that most of the first group were used to student life and were enjoying it. However, the students in the other two groups appeared to have some mental problems. This means that although they were able to function as students, they had not become used to, or were not enjoying, their student life. Nonetheless, participating in group activities in the Weekly Group seemed to help them to develop their social skills and thereby improve their situation.
Accordingly, as a means of supporting students in the student counseling room, group activities seem to take on an important meaning for all sorts of students. Moreover, they are particularly helpful to those students who tend to be isolated from others.
